Drive to Flinders Chase National Park

One of the most scenic experiences on Kangaroo Island in June is taking a drive through Flinders Chase National Park. It’s one of the most instragrammable roads in South Australia. Sitting on Bunker Hill you can truly see just how stunning Flinders Chase is with clear views through to the Remarkable Rocks and Yakka Flats. You can enjoy a self-drive tour, tour bus or personalised 4WD tour through the park.

The Park covers 326 square kilometres with Cape du Couedic in the Southwest, where you’ll reach the historic Cape du Couedic Lighthouse, which was built in the early 1900s. The impressive rocky arch known as Admirals Arch is also home to a colony of fur seals that venture out at dusk and can be spotted from the nearby boardwalk.

You can also head to the Gosse Lands to the northeast and the region around Cape Borda Lighthouse to the northwest, sitting on cliffs overlooking Investigator Strait. It’s the only square stone lighthouse in South Australia and only one of three lighthouses in Australia to still have a Deville lantern room. You can enjoy stunning coastal views.

Guided Nocturnal Tour

A guided nocturnal tour on Kangaroo Island is an unforgettable way to experience the island’s wildlife, particularly in the winter months when many nocturnal animals are more active. As the sun sets, the cooler temperatures bring out the island’s animals, making them easier to spot.

During the tour, experienced guides will lead you through the island’s bushland and forests to help you see and hear the creatures that emerge after dark. You might encounter kangaroos and wallabies grazing, or spot echidnas and possums foraging for food.

Some tours even head to the coastline where you might see the adorable fairy penguins in the wild.

Emu Bay Lavender Farm

A visit to Emu Bay Lavender Farm in July offers the perfect escape into one of Kangaroo Island’s hidden gems. Even in winter, Emu Bay Lavender Farm is a great spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy the calming effects.

While the lavender may not be in full bloom during your visit, you can still make the most of the rolling hills as you stroll through the grounds and soak up that fresh winter air, with that subtle smell of lavender lingering.

After exploring the fields, you can warm up in the farm’s cosy cafe, where you can indulge in a range of lavender-infused treats. From lavender-flavoured scones and biscuits to herbal teas and lavender hot chocolate, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
